Alexandria Area Arts Association

The Alexandria Area Arts Association was founded about 30 years ago to form a vehicle to bring theatre to the community.

Since its inception, AAAA — as it is affectionately known — has become a “home owner” by purchasing the building at 618 Broadway, the former Andria theatre, in downtown Alexandria.

The current AAAA season consists of four plays and various musical acts, from bluegrass and country western to classical music.

In the summer, the AAAA’s “Art in the Park” draws 25,000 to Alexandria City Park. During the two-day admission-free event, visitors stroll through the scenic park along lakes Henry and Agnes and view the work of more than 150 artisans.

This year’s Art in the Park is set for July 30 and 31.

The popular Festival of the Lakes — a two-week showcase of classical music — returns Aug. 12-21. The 13th annual event once again features world-renowned violinists, pianists, cellists and other musicians in concert.
